10 mm Fev50% for steel production Description
Ferrovanadium is a special type of ferroalloy that contains 35 to 85% vanadium, no more than 3% silicon and up to 1.5% aluminium. It may also contain undesirable impurities such as phosphorus and silicon.
The main method of producing the alloy is silicothermal (silico-alumina). The smelting process first produces vanadium pentoxide from ore, which is then reduced in an electric furnace using silicon or aluminium. The hydrometallurgical method is used when the vanadium content of titanium-magnesium ore is high. The iron-vanadium concentrate is pelletised or agglomerated to form vanadium pentoxide.
The pyrometallurgical method involves the extraction of vanadium from pig iron, which is formed after the agglomeration of iron-vanadium concentrate. The pig iron is then oxidised in a converter to produce a slag with 10% vanadium.
